Retail, warehouse operations & ERP extension
Order management and warehouse workflow digitalization for a home furnishings retailer
Initial situation
A global home furnishings retailer relied on a multinational ERP system that did not natively support their specific order types — including cash-and-carry, cash-on-delivery and in-store allocation orders. Extending the existing ERP through the vendor's standard change process would have been costly and time-consuming, making it impractical for individual franchisees with immediate operational needs. Warehouse teams processed these order types manually, limiting throughput and making customer service coordination inconsistent.
Our solution
A purpose-built order management system was developed as a direct ERP extension, covering the complete order handling cycle: receipt, storage, picking and final release after electronic client signature. Mobile devices were deployed at warehouse locations to support picking and goods handling. A queue management system was integrated to coordinate customer service flow at point of contact. The solution connected to both the ERP and the transport company system for dispatch coordination, was deployed across multiple locations with centralized remote diagnostics and administration, and was delivered without external integrator involvement.
The result
The supported order types moved from manual coordination to a digital workflow covering receipt, picking, release and dispatch. Warehouse and customer-service teams gained a consistent process and location-level operational reporting. The custom extension also avoided the longer standard ERP change route.
