Veterinary manufacturing, production logistics & quality control
Production and logistics management for a regulated veterinary manufacturing facility
Initial situation
A global veterinary medicine manufacturer needed to digitalize the complete production flow at their main facility — from raw material receipt through intermediate processing to finished goods storage and dispatch. Standard ERP capabilities were insufficient for the facility's complex batch-based storage requirements, pharmaceutical storage policies and quality control workflows. The factory operated across a large site with unstable Wi-Fi coverage, placing heavy demands on mobile hardware. Any transition had to proceed without disrupting regulated ongoing production.
Our solution
A greenfield solution was implemented in incremental stages, covering raw materials, packaging, intermediate products, finished goods and residual product flows. Core components included a WMS extension with advanced batch-based storage algorithms and optimized picking and forklift operations, a dedicated Quality Control module for sample registration and museum sample archiving, and integration with the facility's MES for production event synchronization. Mobile computers and labeling printers were deployed across the facility with the architecture designed to handle intermittent connectivity. Residual products were reintegrated into production flows; defective items followed structured scrapping processes. Pharmaceutical-grade storage policies were enforced for regulated warehouse areas.
The result
Digital traceability now covers the flow from raw material intake to finished-goods dispatch, replacing many manual and paper-based steps. The staged rollout protected ongoing production, while the purpose-built workflows provided more flexibility than the standard ERP process.
